Vernon Bagwell was born in Greenwood, South Carolina into a strong and stable home with loving parents. After his parent’s divorce, at age 14, he and his mother moved to Anderson, South Carolina. Being at a very vulnerable age, Vernon turned to drugs. He began by smoking marijuana and gradually progressed to stronger and stronger drugs. By age 32 he had a hard core drug addiction that lasted, and progressed, for more than a dozen more years.
Vernon was well on his way to losing everything to the powerful addictions he had allowed into his life, but God had other plans. At age 45, at his mother's home, Vernon encountered the merciful, life-changing force that can only be found through Jesus Christ. As he dedicated himself to God his life began to change. Drastically! He started attending Labor of the Field when it was only a Friday night service in Tyus Butler’s house. The bond between Tyus and Vernon was strong and Vernon grew in the Lord on a daily basis. Under the gentle guidance of Pastor Tyus, he never faltered in his walk with God. Several years later, in 2001, Labor of the Field had procured a building which would become an official place of worship and Vernon was named Associate Pastor. The vision of Labor of the Field is to see men and woman changed by the power of Jesus of Christ. Most of the members and leadership of Labor of the Field come from similar backgrounds as Pastor Vernon. Today, after Tyus Butler lost his life in a motorcycle accident, Vernon Bagwell is Pastor of Labor of the Field and is carrying on the legacy. The men’s addiction recovery ministry continues under the watchful eye of Pastor Bagwell. The church has seen tremendous growth in the last year and Vernon believes that God will bless this ministry beyond anything anyone can imagine. |
